The WMSD Organization is a non profit, 501 (c) (3) organization

whose mission is to help people identify and prevent repetitive motion injuries, cumulative trauma disorders and work related musculoskeletal disorders(wmsd's).

What are work related musculoskeletal disorders (wmsd's)?

According to the National Institute of Safety and Health (NIOSH), "Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders are musculoskeletal disorders caused or made worse by the work environment."

WMSD's can cause severe and debilitating symptoms such as pain, numbness, and tingling; reduced worker productivity; lost time from work; temporary or permanent disability; inability to perform job tasks; and an increase in workers compensation costs.

Musculoskeletal disorders are often confused with ergonomics. Ergonomics is the science of fitting workplace conditions and job demands to the capabilities of workers. In other words, musculoskeletal disorders are the problem and ergonomics may be the solution for eradicating some types of musculoskeletal disorders.

What You Should Know About

Musculoskeletal Disorders

Musculoskeletal disorders can occur at any stage in life and currently affect 70 million (1 in 3) Americans (according to the Center for Disease Control).

Common Symptoms - Think those everyday aches and pains are just a normal part of aging? Think again, they may be symptoms of a serious medical condition.

Risk Factors - There are many people performing work that may put a person at risk for developing a potentially debilitating musculoskeletal disorder. Are you at risk?

Treatment Options - Treatment for musculoskeletal disorders may vary depending on the type of disorder, to the severity of the disorder. Some people respond to mild interventions, while others require aggressive interventive treatment. The WMSD Organization researches the most current treatment options to determine which are generally accepted by the medical profession and which are potentially unsafe.
